Dear CuttingEEG community,
As a research community, cuttingEEG is dedicated to scientific innovation. While we’re dedicated to the latest techniques and methodologies, we also recognize the broader implications of our work. As we just celebrated the 100th anniversary of EEG, alongside CuttingEEG’s 10th anniversary, we believe it’s crucial to reflect on the ethical, social, and environmental dimensions of our research.
To tackle these issues collectively, we are preparing a manifesto for responsible and ethical EEG research. As EEG (and MEG) practitioners, you are invited to contribute to this manifesto and therefore design the future of EEG research.
The EEG Manifesto acknowledges that EEG research, while flourishing, faces a number of challenges: problematic research practices that undermine the validity of findings, a pervasive western, patriarchal bias that excludes non-western scientists, women, and other underrepresented groups, and a growing environmental impact as well as a technological push that threatens sustainability and alienates researchers.
The EEG Manifesto aims to provide a deontological framework for EEG research, advocating for ethical practices grounded in scientific integrity, democratic practices and social and technological responsibility. It is a call to action for scientists, organizations, and stakeholders to reflect on their practices and embrace this path within the possibilities offered by their own context. The manifesto isn’t just about signing a document; it’s about collectively driving ethical, sustainable progress in EEG science.
